Hi guys my name is rick shields. And i'm gonna do a callaway great big bertha challenge it's gonna be callaway great big bertha against callaway great big bertha the difference is about 19 years. So we've got the callaway great big bertha brand new just come out so effectively the 2016 model brand new against the callaway great big bertha from 1997. okay i want to see what what how much of a change has actually taken place uh naturally different in shaft. So the new great big berth is about an inch. And a half longer and what appears almost double the size of the head double the size i've gotten both in nine degrees i'm gonna hit five shots and see what difference there is between the two i've got gc2 dots on both don't think they had gt2 when the first great big bertha came out. So it'll be interesting to see the numbers on this i've done a similar test this before in the past with a different callaway driver but this is the the brand new great big bertha now i've got this one the the original one in the uh firm flex. So i've not got the extra stiff flex but i've got it in firm flex where this is this is just as firm this is the speeder 665 evolution two extra stiff flex fujikora shaft bit of a difference right should we give them a hit let's go let's go original first let's go original callaway great big bertha off a smaller tpeg. And let's see how it can fly i'm gonna hit five with each. And then.
We'll have a look back at the results oh bullets this is gonna be really interesting i'm gonna hit five join me in a sec. And we'll see what the results say oh my god um so yeah if you don't quite find the middle on the on the old one um you might just take the camera out. So apologize if that whistle passed you had i'll continue and hit a few more right so there's the five with the uh original callaway big bertha great big bertha um interesting the one that i caught from the heel that nearly took out the camera apologize about that and the one that i hit from the toe definitely got punished a lot more um let's hit the other one let's hit the new one the two effectively 2016 model and then.
We'll have a look at what the differences actually are. But that on when hit well it felt amazing okay. So brand new one already looks like a spaceship longer shaft i'm just going to move this back i'm on the bigger t okay let's see what this can do compare. So i'm going to turn this into a green a red line let's see what the new great big bertha can do all right guys that's all five with both. And that last one wasn't my best here but i think we'll see a bit of a difference now it took me a minute just to adjust to the length of the shaft certainly holding the club it's a lot longer let's pull up the figures now. And see if how much if there is a difference pretty sure there's gonna be a difference between the two. So you can see the ball of fights there upon screen. And must have made quite a mixture of golf shots red ones are the new great big berth the white ones are the old 1997 great big bertha. And i'm not used to hitting in nine degrees i've loft i must admit and that's what all these clubs were let's have a look at the figures now upon the screen. And see the differences between the brand new effects of the 2016 against the 1997 model um if we pull all them numbers up on screen we've got first off callaway great big birth are the ones at the top the new callaway great big bertha are the ones in red at the bottom okay top ones this is almost like a mini almost like a 3 wood i'm seen as a very low lofty 3 wood clubhead speed 113.6 speed 156.7 okay. And i'll compare that to this in a minute um spin rate it's averaged at 3 000 averaged at 3 000 okay. And obviously that's a big factor now in modern day golf clubs we can swing it faster make the ball travel faster lower the spin launch it higher. And we've got a golf club that goes a lot further and that's pretty much what we've got here we've got an extra three miles per hour in the new golf club lighter not so much in the in the head but the length of the shaft helps it with club head speed as well so much longer that took me a few shots the first couple with the new one took me a couple of shots just to adjust again back to the length about an inch and a half long the new one um ball speed a 10 mile per hour jump 10 miles per hour 166 miles per hour on average so the smash factor of that is much higher 1.43 on average spin rate averaged at 2 400 with the highest spinning one at 2 900 was still lower than the average one of the uh the callaway great bertha original. And so spin rate has come down low i wouldn't say they were my best hits if i'm dead honest with you. And also that lower loft just didn't i don't know i didn't i didn't like it in that 90 degree preferred intent regardless of that distance how much does that equate to distance difference on carry there is a forgot my last right 39 yard improvement 39 yards improvement on distance. And total distance oh seven nearly 40 yards again it's a huge difference in distance between the two but honestly that is just like a three wood in nine degrees of loft when i say in length of my three wood it's pretty much the same size my three would it's only got nine degrees of loft the forgiveness factor was um it was. So unparalleled it was untrue scary the ones want to hit the heel. And the toe from the little version honestly the heel skimmed past the lens the toe one hooked around hugely i must admit i didn't hit these ones out the middle the new one but it they weren't as punishing they were okay they were okay golf shots not as horrendous. But it's amazing the difference obviously we know there's going to be a difference. And those but how much and that's that's a nice little test um callaway great rebirth against original callaway big bertha 40 yards difference um funny i can't adjust it so much with this i wonder if that's the first time a callaway greg big bertha has been on gc2 with hmt as well that'd be interesting to know guys thanks so much for watching hopefully you've enjoyed the video do subscribe by clicking the link down here below um if you've not seen my review of the callaway great big bertha check that out my channel is on there already.
