Hi guys my name's rick shields down here at trafford golf center in manchester and we're doing a three-wood testing day today.
We've got the 16 best three woods currently on the market. And we're putting head to head randomly putting them head to head seeing which is the winner on average seeing which one carries the furthest that goes through to the next.
Round. And the loser is out we're gonna then.
Keep going through that process to find out which one of these three was is the longest. And not just that averaging the longest as well so the more consistent golf club as well uh i'm going to be using gt2 i've been hitting real golf balls. And they've got to be hitting the fairway which would be a 20-yard radius we've got to be hitting that fairway we've got today.
We've got the cobra biocell fairway wood. And we've got the callaway x2 heart now on all the tests that i've done i'm trying to get the lofts as close to 15 degrees as i can in stiff standard manufacturer flex. So we've got 15 degree in the in the callaway today.
But the closest i can get with the cobra is 15. And a half so only half degree difference which not too bad really lengthwise these two golf clubs are almost identical there's no difference in the length. And i've got the cobra today.
In red. But it does normally come in different colours you that's more of a personal touch. But the one i can get ahold of today.
Is the red one. So we're going to go with the cobra by yourself first this is going to be the one that we're going to hit first i'd say i'm going to hit five real golf balls. But the ones that count have to be on the fairway it's not on the fairway i'm going to replay that shot until we've got five. So we can do a good average now i've tested this club before i really like the look of it i like the feel of it uh it's a club that is definitely one that's suited to slightly higher handicap because it's quite a big head it's got quite a big footprint. And it's got quite a deep face really so i'm hitting these off a very small tee to get the best comparison of strikes i can get as well right let's give this a go it seemed like a very nice start 225 yards. And safely down the fairway not bad at all yeah it felt like another good one 226. sorry 236 my fault. And also safely on the short stuff but might just miss the fairway i know it's on the fairway it's all right a little bit further out 11 yards to the side but 236 also a decent carry distance let's go two more that felt nice not as far but dead straight down the middle two two four let's go one more well that might miss the fairway yes that's mr fairway two three five. But it's missed the fair so i'm gonna replay that one let's go one more yeah it should be safely down the short stuff yes it is 231 yards. And only one yard off target line so i'm going to take that fourth one out the fifth one sorry the final one that i was gonna hit. But i replaced it so i'm gonna take that one out so we've got an average carry distance of 230 yards which is probably a little bit short on the testing front when i've tested the other. So far it might be a little bit short on that but it be it's more competition against the callaway is too hot today.
Um four out of the five a five out of six hit the fairway uh there was just one offline which could be a little bit down to myself obviously mainly. But it's quite a nice forgiving goal so it feels good it's relatively easy to hit and because of its bigger head it's definitely a nice driver replacement club as well so this one can go in different lofts as well it can go all the way down to 13 degrees. So it can be a club you can really deal off down right however. we can test this now against the callaway. So when i've tested this in the past this has been pretty long gone test the callaway is too hot certainly last year's 3-wood was very long. So we're going to see what it's like this time however. what i've normally found with the callaway is that the straightness does get sometimes jeopardized even though it is super long right let's give this crack it's got 230 average to beat to go through to next.
Round oh it's a very very very nice start yeah 249 yards of carry distance definitely one of the biggest shots i've hit. So far today.
And snap bang in the middle of the fairway so it's a counting goal shot yeah it's another very good one 250 yards. And it's still in the fairway only 12 yards offline so it could be a bit of a walk in the park for the callaway here that won't be as far because it was off the bottom groove two three six. So even a badly hit one it's still currently averaging over the the distance of the uh cobra and all of them smack bang in the middle of the fairway so far it's got two more it might time it might be a bit left and this what i'm saying about the callaway that sometimes it can miss target it's 250 yards. But it's missed target left so we're gonna go two more and i think it's just mainly due to the power that this club creates sometimes a bit harder to control yeah it's safe right in the middle of the fairway not quite as far. But it's absolutely safe okay we're gonna go one more we've got a very healthy average at the moment as long as this hit one hits the fairway we're good oh it might have missed actually i know it's all right it's safe just on that right hand side. So it's 236 yards of carry distance there right let's have a look i'm going to take out that one bad one which is the fairway mist shot. And the average carry distance for the callaway is too hot was 240 yards. So one of the longest so far i've tested so it was 10 yards longer than the cobra biocell. So it's absolutely battered it and it goes through to the next.
Round so guys that was my review today.
On my test with the callux too hot against the cobra biocell. And the driver goes through to next.
