Do you want to play better golf without changing one single bit of your golf swing well you've come to the right place in this video i'm going to show you three very easy methods. So you become more relaxed you swing much freely and you translate what swings you might see on a driving range here out onto the golf course now for this example i'm going to hit a tee shot because a lot of the time that's where golfers might get the most nerves might be the most tense certainly if it's your first tee shot. But all of these tips can be used all the way through every single shot in your round of golf. And believe me they make a massive difference number one and this sounds like a crazy one to say but honestly it's so true breathing we all do it naturally obviously. But over a golf shot there's so many times where i'll see a golfer almost hold their breath they're almost so tempted like take a big socket and just like hold the breath and the problem with that obviously you don't get oxygen to your muscles you're not as as relaxed or as smooth where like say if you're on the driving range and you're shelling balls you're breathing you're chatting you're a lot more relaxed now funny story i actually played golf one time with ronnie o'sullivan who's one of the best snooker players ever existed and i also play with his sports psychologist and as an agreement i said to the sports psychologist i'll give you golf tips if you give me some sport psychology tips. And after about three holes he said to me do you breathe when you hit shots. And i said never never ever thought about it he said you don't now granted i was probably quite nervous because playing with ronnie o'sullivan. But after that i was always very conscious. And i started to put into my own game breathing exercises so when i come to a shot now i'm making sure i'm conscious that i'm taking big breaths in and exhaling out and it's amazing what it does to your body makes you. So much more relaxed and even when i've stood over the golf ball making sure as i'm setting up and i'm looking down that fairway again big breath in fill the lungs up and exhale out gives you so much more relaxation and then.
You're ready to pull the trigger so the next.
Thing to help you become more relaxed and help you hit the ball better is being a little bit more fluid before you come to hit a shot how many times have you seen this you're watching a four ball tee off in front of you. Or you're playing partners or you may do it yourself they'll settle to the golf ball. And then.
Before they hit they are literally like a statue nothing is moving. And it might be up to 10 seconds before they then.
Take the club back and swing and hit the problem with that as soon as you're stood over the golf ball if you're frozen over the golf ball it might be a bit of a mental block the problem with that is as soon as you start freezing everything tenses up bring your toes up to your head everything starts to get tighter. And you need to relax you need to have that fluidity now you'll see a lot of the best players in the world and probably garcia was the maybe the one that went the most exaggerated with this as they're setting up to the golf ball the club is almost never still the player is almost never still they might be moving the feet they might be waggling the club letting go. And re-gripping like i said garcia is a very extreme example over that. But even look at some of the young blood that's coming through someone like a matte wolf they are not static before they hit the shot there's there's movements taking place. And only subtle ones but it's amazing what it does how it relaxes your arms. So tip number two when you set up to the golf ball and you're looking down the fairway keep the club moving couple little takeaways keep that club moving and then.
Spend very little time in that kind of frozen position before you swing and hit the shot so number two don't be frozen over the golf ball add a little bit of movement add a little bit of fluidity it's amazing what difference it makes to how much more relaxed you are when hitting the golf shot now my next.
Point. And the final point to be more relaxed when you're playing golf is how tight you're holding this club a lot of the time golfers will strangle. And squeeze the golf club that can have a massively negative effect if you tighten your hold on the golf club what tends to happen your four arm muscles here contract. And as soon as they start to contract the club comes further away from the ground now the t shot the only punishment you may have is you might just catch it a little bit low on the face. But iron shots and wedges especially around the green if you tense your arms and the forearms shorten there's a much higher percentage that you might top it you might thin it severely badly now again if we're looking to be more relaxed we want to translate that practice here to the golf course having that looser slightly lighter grip pressure will make a big difference now picture this if i've got the golf club here. And i'm gripping it as hard as i can i'm going to classify that as 10 out of 10 grit pressure i'm squeezing that until my hands pretty much go blue. And white then.
If i relax my hands to almost a zero like i'm hardly holding the golf club at all now that that'd be too loose we'd let go of the club if that was the case we're looking. For a medium between that we want about a five out of ten so not squeezing it as tight as we can. But also still having a little bit of a hold the difference then.
Through my forearms even just doing that little rehearsal then.
When i was squeezing it as tight as i could my forearm started to ache when you go. For more that five out of 10 grit pressure it just feels like you've got so much more rhythm to your swing so much more relaxed you look at some of the best players who have had rhythm someone like even old school like freddie couples just so relaxed and chilled with it so breathing number one take that big breath in exhale out number two do not be static over the golf ball we want that little bit of movement. And then.
Finally number three don't strangle the golf club five out of ten grip pressure is gonna give you the best chance of being nice. And relaxed so you can stand up on the first tee. Or any point in a round of golf feeling more relaxed and playing better golf give them a try let me know what you think we'll see you next.
Time.
