In this video i'm going to show you how to fix your slice in a really easy way slices that horrible curving shot that goes way offline finds the trees. Or hazards or even worst outer bounds i'm going to show you in very easy steps how to fix it how to hit the ball straighter. And therefore. play much better golf [Music] so there's two main things to focus on when trying to fix the slice the club face position at impact and also the swing direction stay tuned to the final little nugget of information that could really help you hit much straighter shots first thing we're going to cover is club face. For a slicer somebody who curves the shot off to the right hand side typically what's happening is the club as it's coming into the golf shot is open the face is pointing too far to the right in conjunction with that the swing direction is going too far to the left. And those two things combine the club face position and the swing path direction causes that curvature causes that spin on the golf ball so the first thing we need to address is the club face position if we can fix that first off you'll start hitting it to the right second you'll also hit it much better to start things off now the things we need to focus on is mainly two things first off the thing that controls the club face is our hands on the club. So really simply we're going to strengthen up the grip a little bit. So if i just hold the club down here in front of me with the front of the grip nice and straight i want to focus on this when you're putting your top hand on let's go in a slightly stronger position so i'm going to twist this hand around a little bit more. So that i can see one two. And maybe even my third knuckle that will be considered as a stronger grip now the advantage of a stronger grip it'll control that clubface it'll get that face turning more to the left it's really important. For when we're trying to fix that slice the next.
Thing we want to do with the bottom hand the right hand is feel like it's almost going more to the side of the grip not sitting on top if we have that hand sitting on top which a lot of slicers do that causes the face to open too much. So we're gonna just position it slightly more to the right hand side of the grip now those two things in conjunction control this club face it gives the face a much more kind of bias towards the left and that's a really good thing now kick things off you might just change that grip and hit some shots and straight away you might see shots that go to the left and that's okay. So let's do that first i'm strengthening the grip my left hand is more on top my right hand is more to the side expect this shot to go left. But that's okay. So once you hit one because you are holding it in a much stronger position you'll hit it left left. And that is honestly that's okay if you don't hit it left straight away try one more thing as you're coming into the shot get the feel in the sensation that your right arm is extending. And crossing over your left arm here in this position as you're coming through the ball your arms are crossing over again slicers will probably get a little bit more this way a bit more chicken wing when the arms separate. So if the grip hasn't fully hit the ball to the left do not fear get the feeling the arms are crossing over. And you will hit it left left. And believe me that's okay that's stage one fixing the face we have to do that first if you're not hitting it left left do make sure you master that before you really move on to trying to change the swing path the next.
Step changing your swing direction. So you've mastered the club face you're now allowing that club face to rotate you're now hitting the ball more to the left now we've got to consider the angle our club comes into the golf ball because again if you are a slicer of the golf ball typically because you've been playing with an open face you would have taught your swing to move more out to win to swing across the golf ball we need to do the complete opposite to that we want to fix a slice we've got to hit more from the inside of the golf ball. So picture this if i draw a line going straight towards my target which is pretty much over that bunker a slicer will come in from the outside of that line. And then.
Swing to the inside of that line we've got to change that over we're looking now to do swings that go from the inside of that line more to the outside. So you can see it's a very different angle because you fixed your club face in the first section of this video. And then.
You've got to change your path that's when you're going to really see a dramatic change in ball flight you will not slice it anymore you'll hit it a lot straighter. So try this for me there's simple things we need to do once you've got that stronger grip. And you've got your setup position hitting driver we've got our ball position forward just inside left heel i'm just going to use the t-peg to demonstrate this. And all i'm gonna do in my setup is a slight tilt in my shoulders. So my right shoulder is lower than my left i'm also gonna bring my right shoulder back more. And just bring that right foot back a little bit more so our body alignment is actually going slightly more to the right that's okay. And practice this once you get to the top of your backswing get this feeling that the club's going to go behind you first to drop him behind you before swinging towards the ball. Or the tee and then.
Swinging more outwards so you get to the top of your swing the club's going to drop more behind you as you swing more from in to out you're doing something completely different to that slice swing that you're doing before. So you've got your stronger grip that's going to help control the club face you're allowing that face to rotate you've got your new setup position with your shoulder back slightly to the right foot back. And gets feeling you're swinging much more from in to out really got to change your swing direction to really change your swing flight so i've hit that much more from the inside the clubface has rotated more it's almost more like a rotation of the of the club and the face that completely changes the ball flight you don't hit that weak slicey horrible shot to the right anymore you hit a much more penetrating ball flight a straighter ball flight and lo and behold you might even hit some draw shots where the start to the right and curve back to the middle those two things are really important the last thing is the little golden nugget that will really unlock your potential where you strike on the club face slicers will typically hit towards this side of the club the heel. And because of the club's design because it's actually not flat it's curved it's got loft when you hit the heel it actually causes the ball to curve more to the right so it's a focus on this draw a line in your mind through the middle of the club face from top to bottom and your objective is to hit this side of the face more the toe ideally middle yes. But if you're going to miss middle try. And hit more towards the toe now to do that something dead simple you can spray the club face with athlete's foot powder spray i've done videos on that before i'll i'll put a link in the description if you want to see more of that. Or you can just monitor strike when you ain't hit a shot certainly like today.
The golf ball's a little bit wet i'll probably see a mark on the club face focus your attention on trying to hit towards the toe to middle of the club face if you can achieve that. And not hit the heel you will hit it ridiculously better. And you'll actually see that a little bit more of a draw shape i just hit that slightly from the toe and it caused the ball more right to left shape complete opposite to a slice guys if you enjoyed that video make sure you subscribe if you want to see me review golf equipment to help you play better golf you want to see me play more golf on interesting golf courses and with interesting guests make sure you subscribe it's free to do hit like on this video if you've enjoyed it loads more coaching videos as well to help you play better golf we'll see you next.
