Hi guys so we're down here at trump international in scotland i'm here with a fantastic guest this is richie ramsey who is a tour professional uh thank you very much. For your time richard thanks appreciate at the moment which is a shame because he's he's almost at your own course next.
Week into the scottish open yeah scottish open at rollerblading. So yeah fantastic setup. And you know blue skies and a great field so yeah we won't talk about it too much more no i know we'll put that keep quiet yeah. So hopefully i'll recover that injury recover soon one thing i just wanted to kind of get the message across from rich is a little bit of links advice obviously links i would say is a very different style of playing golf. And i'm sure richie can extend on this a bit further what kind of bits of advice would you give to just a general golf in public advice to how to play links better yeah i think the one thing guys can get confused a lot how far the ball actually flies impact it has i mean we're off an average year. And generally up here it's a lot colder right yeah. And guys stand up there and you know maybe play the home club but a nice parking course and they hit it and they may hit their seven iron like 150 yards but off link's turf you generally don't hit the ball as far because it doesn't sit up it's high for you and with that cold breeze you know 150 yards can turn into about. And then.
Where's all the links uh problems you know you're looking at pop bunkers they're all fun and suddenly guys getting bunkers they hate getting in bunkers and then.
There's a high number so it's a great it's a great piece of architecture isn't it really obviously they realize that the ball is going to travel a little bit less in the cold wind. But why not put all the pop bunkers right at the front to catch everyone out yeah. And then.
Once again the pump bunkers you know i see guys and they they don't like them at all first they look at the lips and i think i can't get it looks daunting normally isn't it because it's got the the rivets in it as well they really struggle with that a lot of time i've got to go in there. And show them how to shot and really um a lot of them stand in there stand square and they don't open up the blade enough so when they're getting in there they put the balls here and they put the blade down and they really need to adjust it and open up and just splash through and get that height on it a lot of guys just play it like they rude like a normal chip shot and they actually a lot of time they put they really lean their hands forward which obviously deal off the clock yes it does. And it's going straight into the face you're trying to get up a bank that's higher than you sometimes yeah. So you really need to really open the face up almost put it um you know almost put it flat on the ground and then.
You also obviously you need to watch the shaft angle so you get the shaft angle too far forward the ball is just going to come out low. So keep the loft really open up get the loft up and make sure your shaft angles back which easy way to do that is if you're setting up. For a bunker shot like five to show you here if i was setting up to hit a bunker shot i wouldn't want my hands forward. And the club there i would want it nice and open and keep the shaft hanger probably into your belt buckle so that way when you've got the shaft angle back you're going to keep the loft on. So all you need to do is head through it the ball should pop up which is actually juice you use a different he's used a tailor-made eye in there in his bag he couldn't use his wedges. For legal reasons because i've moved down here today.
At trump international with the taylormade day richie we appreciate your time really doing hopefully bits of advice will help you next.
Time you play at the links. And do follow richie's progression once your shoulders are right again yeah thanks very much.
