Hi guys it's rick shields and we are doing an end-of-year 2016 look at the golf clubs that have been out. And i've just done three videos about irons all-round iron longest iron and players irons you can check out already on my channel. And now we're going to move into the woods i'm going to do a driver video. And i'm kind of just going to do an all-round driver video i'm not going to talk too much about forgiveness just an all-round driver video because a lot of drivers now have gone geared more towards yes distance is still a massive thing. But how actual forgiving can we make it now as well. So these these three for me fit a lot of the categories these aren't in any particular order at all no particular order. And it's all clubs i've reviewed in the last 12 months so we're going to start off with the taylormade m2 now the taylormade m2 last year with last year's model 2015-16 is incredible it's incredible now i'm saying this. And i'm looking you know i'm saying it's incredible i've never used i've never gamed it i've actually never actually played with it on the golf course i reviewed it i test it i loved it i've been using the m1 all season but for me the m1 i loved it is exactly the same as what i get from the m2 it's just that the m2 is cheaper. So if you're looking for a golf club go with m2 every single day the m1 had a lot of adjustability therefore. rank the price up but you don't really need it what the m2 gives you is fantastic unless you're really struggling with low spin high spin sorry high spin yes maybe the m1 might help. But m2 has been well received again towards the back end of the year with a lot of nike players dropped out of nike golf clubs they've all been switching to m2 now that's no coincidence. And it's not cash i don't believe they've been testing golf clubs and they've been finding the taylormade m2 is the best performance it looks amazing from the top. And underneath here's a little bit of a review of me testing it and i've literally tested against a lot of golf clubs this year and it keeps coming out on top the m2 is effectively an m1. So it's in the m1 family but it's not got adjustable weights this is a cheaper price point than the m1 because it's not got as much adjustability it looks identical to an m1. And from the top but all you can do is change the loft. So the m2 is coming from a slighter lighter price point it's not got any adjustability of weight the weight port that's in the head is actually quite far back. But apparently it's got quite a centered cg instead of the weight sliding across the face it's just got the big slot for a speed pocket so off-centred hits is still going to generate lots of speed let's give it here i can't see it performing anything different to the m1. And boom there it is i can't imagine this performing anything different to the m1 they're flying machines i love this line of golf clubs i love the m1. And i cannot see why any one body wouldn't love the m2 okay. So the next.
Club in this category that i found was the best club of all around drivers this year. And it's a callaway driver they might say to me which one but you might be right saying that but for me the range it was fantastic. And i mean the range that was fantastic this year was the callaway xr16 wow wow wow wow you had the xr16 normal you had the xr16 pro. And then.
You had a limited edition xr16 sub-zero for me the pro and the sub-zero performed incredible looked great had influence in from aerodynamics about the flow of the the airflow across the head movable weights in the sub-zero and just just great performing drivers major winners i think well henry extent was henry stenson was using one. For the open danny willett using one for the masters um alex noren has won a million times this year with using an xr driver it's been so well received it's untrue and it is just a great golf club here's a little clip of me testing the xr16 pro. And the xr16 sub-zero and just getting great results out of it as every club in this category and every club across this um these series of videos i'm bringing out if you ever want to watch the full review click the i in the corner and it'll take you to one of the full reviews that you want to watch here's a little clip of me testing out the callaway xr16 drivers the xr pro it's got technology in it obviously with the speed step and the aerodynamics and the work they've done been doing with boeing um but it's not loads of weights you can change it's not too fiddly it's a simple driver the face is has still got the big cross on the face. And i love this cross on the face i think these drivers are gonna do really well just they just look the part you know they make them really cool oh wow that is gonna be big yes i'm straight. And long like it this is the callaway xr sub zero driver callaway are claiming it's their lowest spinning driver they've ever made the type of golfer this will work. For is someone who swings it very very fast. So i would normally say somewhere in kind of 110 miles per hour plus and a player that hits down too much making a traditional driver spin up too much i love the look of this head big black dark shiny finish head i think it looks awesome let's give it a hit yes i've pushed it a tiny bit. But that felt fantastic off the face that honestly felt awesome i'd be interested to see what the spin rate is on that uh 2 000 spin on that 2065 spin on that okay. So the last club that's in this category for me was the ping g driver just brilliant amazing i reviewed it at the very very start of the year it used the same turbulator technology it had in the last g driver. But then.
Also introduced butterfly technologies to strip the crown from weight a vortex on the back it came in the ls tech version which was the low spin version. And the sf tech version which was the straight flight version just awesome drivers look great very loud very sad big sound driver looked like a batmobile look very kind of modern. And forward thinking from ping we i think we're gonna see a lot of that moved into the future i think they just they just nailed it this year with the ping driver they just managed to enhance perfection. But the ping drivers are awesome. And they just keep enhancing it all the time um i didn't use it this year because i was using the taylormade. And i found that i like the feel of that and the sound of that better but if i would have ever dropped back i would have probably dropped straight back into the g drive a great driver and his little clip of me reviewing it at earlier in the start of the year pink here with g i've stripped weight from the top by almost like kind of stripping wings out it's almost like a dragonfly wing that's the idea of it they've made they've saved eight grams of weight to shove in the bottom and back because this is aimed. For forgiveness that is this is its driver's motto it wants forgiveness that's what it's aimed. For if you want more distance and you can create the climate speed yeah hell jump into the g ls tech. But for ultimate forgiveness the g is the one that you know people are looking into looks behind the ball a bit like when the g30 came out i think it's going to take a little bit of time to get used to now that not only the turbulators. But also the dragonfly technology at the back it's not offensive it's not offensive at all i think it's just going to take a little bit of time. For as soon as you pick that club up you're going to go oh that looks interesting it looks fast it looks sharp it looks um kind of modern. But it might just take a few hits before you really like the look of it behind the ball let's give this a bit of a wall upon well let's give it a hit this is. For forgiveness rick not length on this driver let's give it a hit that felt lovely i'll be honest i hit that as good as i can hit it in the right spot i can hit it as good as i can hit it. So guys that is it.
