So it's a brand new year we've got some brand new callaway drivers to test in this video you're going to see my full review of the brand new rogue st drivers from callaway. So there's four new drivers in the lineup and i've come to why they're each slightly different in a moment but first off let's talk about the name we've heard rogue before back in 2018 callaway brought the rogue drivers out and they were actually very successful this time around the rogue st st meaning speed tuned is going to be replacing the maverick driver from two years ago callaway do this thing where each alternate year they'll bring out a driver with a movable weight followed by the next.
Year with drivers with no movable weight technology. And we're in the non-movable weight year this time the one that i think is going to be the most popular is this one the rogue st max this is a 460cc driver it's designed. For most forgiveness so if you're out there and you want to be able to get the most forgiveness out of your driver that's where you'll be probably looking on the side of that you've got a max d which is effectively a driver to help golfers who spray a little bit more to the right to try. And fix that slice then.
You have a max ls head this time it's a forgiving driver still apparently but with lower spin than the max i think it's going to suit a slightly better golfer who wants to keep that forgiveness. But also obviously also try and maximize distance and then.
Finally and i think this driver i'll be honest with you is probably not going to go in the bag of a single average golfer in the world it's the rogue st triple diamond ls hell of a name now this monster is a super low spin driver on paper. So i think. For a lot of golfers low spin will equate to less forgiveness. So in this video i test every single one of these drivers and give my full honest opinion of what i found let's talk looks first because for me this is a very classy driver design from callaway this year they've gone. For a matte black top which i'm a fan of not for everybody i really like the top looking down on the drivers and they've gone for this kind of gold black white color scheme which i'll be honest with you it looks quite classy there's been a few drivers that callaway have brought out recently even the epic speed which is still in the lineup now kind of green yellowy almost a bit gimmicky colors well i honestly think this time the lineup looks very clean. And very classy and that same color scheme rolls into the head cover as well with kind of black gray white and gold and it would be a really nice head cover bar having a big number one on it i don't know why for whatever reason i feel like a driver just doesn't need a number one on it it's a shame so price wise rrp these are 479 pounds per driver. But in reality by the time they hit stores you're probably going to be paying near to 450 pounds now let's dive into technology. And find out what's different in the rogue st now callaway are a big fan of this ai computer they bought a few years ago apparently this supercomputer that gives callaway all the answers to every golfer's dreams they've used it on the face before by making a more artificial intelligent face. But optimizing ball speed across the face that's continued with these drivers and apparently it's got even better but also they've used it this time to figure out how they can make the jailbreak system better. So now this is jailbreak ai speed frame. So this supercomputer has said that the jailbreak technologies just change a little bit get a little bit thinner. For you guys as a golfer what you need to know is apparently it helps keep the relationship between the top. And head and the bottom of the head of the driver more stable so again you get more ball speed across the face on good hits and on those miss hits they've moved the weight further back and that's where you see this big gold kind of waiting system here at the back that's to optimize forgiveness the correct spin rate and again to make it a much more forgiving driver things that callaway have also included which aren't new so you can change the loft sleeve. And go up and down in lofts and you can also dial it a little bit to fine-tune it if you want it a little bit more upright. For example to stop it going more to the right. But all in all i'll be honest with you not massive changes this year by callaway they're very subtle tweaks so what they believe is already great technology out there in their drivers. But does that translate into better performance well that's what i wanted to find out. So i went on the golf course and i took out the max the max ls and the triple diamond ls [Music] [Music] [Music] so after spending some time whacking all of these three drivers out on the golf course there's a couple of things i want to pick up on first looks of the driver behind the golf ball is right up my street ah. For me these head shapes this year certainly i probably swayed a little bit more towards the max ls head shape wise behind the ball was stunning. And i really do like the finish the matte black top. For me personally i'm a huge fan of it and then.
Sound wise these drivers all sounded good but also sounded slightly different to each other for me the max version was the loudest it gave that kind of a bit more of a crack off the head the max ls had that tiny bit more of a dead noise again. For me personally i preferred the sound of that max ls and then.
The triple bot diamond even a deader noise possibly not as a bigger fan of that now when i say dead it almost just it's not coming off as if it's super loud off the face it's a bit more of a crack and i guess that's down to the way they've moved the weights or the carbon the views etc etc can just change the audio a tiny bit. So then.
Let's dive into what i was actually seeing ball flight wise i start off with the max the most forgiving driver it did what it said on the tin it was definitely very forgiving it found like that even when i didn't strike it well it i was looking up. And i was seeing a flight that i wanted to see i would say i would remove the d-type. For a minute because i'll come on to that i would definitely see the max having a little bit of a left tendency just a touch the max ls again for me right where i want it for me the flight of it was superb off the tee i found i hit it very straight i found that it was still very forgiving not maybe as much as the max. But forgiving then.
Moving into the triple black diamond this is the one i was kind of most concerned about because of its low spin characters uh it was a monster i definitely hit a couple of big drives with the triple black. But then.
Again i also hit a few offline i feel like that is a driver that again is very much suited to the best players who can hit the middle of the face on a consistent basis who will be able to optimize that driver. But all in all happy with the flight happy with the sound happy with the looks so then.
We need to get some data so i actually went to torx sell my gc quad and hit shots with all four of the drivers and this is what i found i'm going to start off with the d type first this is the one that supposedly helps you hit it less to the right now when i was just trying to swing it normally yes i definitely saw more of a left tendency the way that the weight has been pushed into the heel i was finding the toe felt very fast therefore. shutting down the face therefore. going a bit more left. But i must admit i also messed about with hitting some slice golf swings could i still slice it yeah of course i could it's not a miracle worker it plays a small part in changing the ball flight. But not loads now i didn't collect any hard data with the d-type driver just because for me it doesn't suit my swing so it'd be kind of pointless irrelevant but i did collect data with these three i'm gonna start off with the max first the max as i mentioned out the golf course gave me a lot of forgiveness. And again when i was hitting it in the simulator i saw that again even on really bad strikes coming low off the head i found that oh time. And time again this max driver performed the numbers that i like to see it was good i was really impressed with that. But distance wise it wasn't the longest in the test and i'd expect that as well just because of the head shape etc it was spinning a little bit higher than what i'd normally see. But i was carrying that 276 yards with 2 200 spin. And a little bit low on the ball speed only 156 miles per hour ball speed good but not perfect for me but i must admit i recommend that to a lot of high handicappers who want forgiveness then.
Moving into the max ls the one that i've all the way through this testing loved the look of the most liked the sound of the most and loved the performance on the golf course did it match up. For me on performance oh yes it did it did i was carrying this one 280 yards of carry it was spinning just around 2000 rpm spin. But again the ball speed wasn't crazy fast i was getting about 155 miles per hour of ball speed with this then.
Moving into the triple diamond ls now this one as i saw on the golf course i definitely hit a couple of drivers i stood there went wow that looks like it's gone a long way that is a low spin monster did i see that in the simulator well yes i did again i saw low spin about 2000 rpm. But as i mentioned earlier on anything that was hit off-centered definitely lost my performance. So on average i was carrying that driver 277 yards here a couple of really long ones mixed in with some missed strikes which definitely brought the average down. For me the max ls is the one that i would put in the bag the one that suited me the best. So to give my conclusion of this new callaway lineup they're nice drivers they are they've done what i'd expect them to do. But as i've said. For a number of years now if you've got a callaway driver for maybe the last three to five years you're probably not gonna see a great deal of difference between those and this lineup but if you want a brand new driver and you want a callaway you're not going to go far wrong with these either guys thanks. For watching stay tuned lots more to come and we'll see you next.
Time.
