Hi guys my name's rick shields down here at golf central in brisbane australia i'm gonna do a head-to-head i'm gonna do a tailor-made aero burner mini driver versus a 3-wood. So the taylormade r15 3-wood i've got the mini driver in 14 degrees and i've got the r15 cranked down to 14.25 so as close as i can together only because i just i'm still uncertain where i understand the mini driver concepts i've done a review on it if you've not seen it please do go. And check it out i understand the idea of it but i don't quite still know where it fits in a golf bag does it replace a driver. Or does it replace a 3-wood. So i'm going to see what it how it compares to a 3-wood because last time i had a mini driver in my bag it replaced my 3-wood the only tricky bit is off the floor i find a mini driver hard harder to hit. So give it a go so i've got real um shrieks and zed star golf balls down here in the kind of members vip area which is quite nice down here at gulf central i want to thank the guys are going to let me come down. And do some filming i've got gc2. So let's start off on the t first let's hit three each off the t and then.
We'll go three each off the floor so it performs that's the r50 i've got the weight in the middle now looking down on t just looks nice and easy to hit it's still got quite a big head bitter loft shallow face which i like on the r15 three wood it just feels nice so i've not looked at any figures yet those ball flights were just nice they were good hits good solid hits. And go straight into the mini driver next.
So i'm not going to look at any figures any data. So like i said this on a t a little tiny t peg. So let's see how now the arrow burner hits and we'll have a look at the figures okay there's my three with the mini driver um felt more powerful. But with power i felt like i lost more control okay. So i felt with more power felt like i lost more control let's have a look at some of the data first so this is going to be interesting the 3-wood the r153 would carried at 243 yards it hit four yards offline to the right four. And a half yards and nine yards left not much ball speed was 153 with a clubhead speed of 107. okay nice nice figures that's why i'm using the r50 at the moment 3-wood i'm liking it the mini driver average carry of 254 yards it's much longer nine yards 10 yards longer. But with that i hit one dead straight to the dead straight two two and a half yards off line but then.
I hit one 18 yards left and a bit left granted 40 yards left it's too far ball speed is faster at 158. And club head speed is faster at 110. So for me it's not a driver it's not a three-wood replacement there that's gone much further than my three-wood kind of sits in between my gap of my three-wood and my driver i'm not sure where this this club sits yet because now i'm going to test it off the floor let's see how it performs off the floor because this is where i feel like 3-wood still has loads of strength over the mini with its shallower face i feel like it's much easier to hit off the floor. And that might just be for me myself but i do feel more confident with the three wood hitting off the floor um. So so far there's definitely more distance and they're the same lofts there's more meat behind the head lighter shaft it was traveling faster club head speed was definitely faster let's go three off the floor this time with the three wood right i'm going to leave all three of those in that last one was a bit a bit ropey i didn't enjoy that last one. But let's see how you know let's see how it performed it hit that one great so the three shots with the three were off the floor carried it two three three best one was two three eight worst one was two two nine okay let's see what the mini does straight away head size just it just scares me more there's just too much depth too much meat to the head i feel like i'm hitting an old old-fashioned driver i feel like i'm just hitting a small driver that's how it gets on see i had to hit that different attic that like a driver off the floor. But it's gone miles further the same distance as my three would off the off the tee let's go two more that was more off the bottom see i it's those shots i'm not quite sure about because i i just didn't feel anywhere near as good as the three was when i hit it. And punished for for it distance was way down when you get it right it flies oh. So confused about this club so confused about it right so the average there with the three the mini driver off the floor was 239 yards. But there's that really ropey one 231 just off the bottom groove just couldn't get the depth low enough to get the bot the good contact still confused about this club i don't think it can replace the 3-wood because the fact that off the floor with the three wood the three would still wins hands down the three would still wins hands down. For me because it's shallower it's easier to hit i think. For me it would still be a three wood i think the mini driver has to be played like a mini driver it's not it's a big three-wood. Or a small driver for me has to be more replacing a driver or like a secondary driver a safe driver but difficult to hit off the deck more difficult i feel like when i'm looking down at it i feel like i'm trying to hit driver off the deck rather than a nice slim three wood which feels more comfortable and that's off a good lie so what would it be like on a on a rough lie or a bad lie or a not sure i think it's got its place in the market i think it each each golfer out there is going to play it play the mini driver as a different club some are going to play it like a driver replacement as some are going to risk maybe trying to play it like a big three would you might not hit three wood off the floor ever oh i thought mini drive is great because you don't need to worry about it it's a club to hit off the t guys let us know what you would do with the club let us know what you would do with the mini driver would you replace it. For the driver would you replace it as a 3-wood or have you replaced one for a driver and you know tell us your stories i'd love to hear about the mini driver stories that you've got guys thanks for watching as always i've loved being down here at golf central in brisbane um they've looked after me like royalty today.
