This is it said andrews old course break 75 episode number [Music] all 10. this is just a special place home of golf this is where it all started on this very golf course i'm going to play today.
This is where the greats have played where sevy won tigers won just as an amazing venue. So we're gonna go out and play today.
I'd like to play with steve north who's one of the head pros here at saint andrews as you can see from my jacket. And the rain and you might get a bit of rain on the lens today.
It's raining we've got proper traditional scottish weather today.
And i'm going to be dead on the street right now i don't think i've ever been as nervous as i am right now. And it's like it's like nervous excitement when the first it's the biggest airway in bloody golf my legs already feel like they're kind of going a little bit let's hope we get off to a good start let's hope with a nice one off the starting hole let's get out there [Music] that feels good it's pounded out of my chest like my legs my feet my hands everything. But we got it away i made concept we're down the fairway that was good nice feeling i'm chuffed about that now it's time to settle in. And play some golf [Music] oh that would have been a dream start oh i'm not disappointed because i'll take power every day but that would have been a dream start my second shot down here on the second i've actually pulled it a little bit onto the 17th fairway which is fine a lot of the golf the greens you'll see today.
A massive double greens. So there's a white flag on this green and a red flag but the red flags for the 16. screens are gigantic they catch it oh they didn't catch that one. But it's kind of run through the rough and maybe got on the green but don't forget this isn't this isn't manufactured a course designer didn't come in and build these mounds this is the natural lie of the land which what makes it. So fascinating [Music] [Music] roll rick well done if someone would have said to me this morning you have three open up with three parts on the old course i'll snatch the hand off i'm all right with that three greens in regulation three parts that is absolutely perfect absolutely perfect that's what i like to hear absolutely perfect [Music] thank you look at this nearly went in that's where it's pitched it must have gone pretty close because it's finished there we've got a tapping birdie on the fourth hole let's go one under haha [Music] yeah fine yeah i've got a three bullet in the locker [Music] i must have struck that pure it wouldn't have been enough club. But i hit that really nice this is the first of the par fives. But we're in good shape this green by the way is absolutely ginormous uh [Music] little break silly bogey there back to level realistically i wouldn't have any shots my short game has cost me this series like those little chips it's all in here as [Music] oh [Music] nice we all count perfect perfect. And well done are the words i like to hear [Music] oh hold it [Music] if anything it's a tiny bit longer. But i reckon i pitched it near the flag lagging that laggy said oh no get down whoa that's a long way left. But we're putting [Music] nine holes in so far currently level path one birdie one bow gear lots of opportunities but in these conditions i'm taking that so far but you know after nine holes we don't just rack up the score we also dive into some food now don't actually have a sausage roll here this is a pasty which is called a birdie on the menu it's sec saying it's chicken. And leek pastry let's give it a go [Music] um yeah the pasta didn't last i end up going. For a mozzarella baguette instead this is very nice actually i'm not going to rate it though it doesn't deserve rate it. But it's nice so uh we've had an incident um those two birds fighting over there are actually fighting over my baguette. So uh the pasta didn't last the baguette didn't last not having much luck let's hope my luck changes okay pulled up the left. But i've got lucky i've missed all of the the horrible stuff down the hill left to right wind's going to help it a fraction [Music] oh. And you leave it short hey [Music] hold a second oh yeah that's lovely that's what i meant i honestly thought that was heading towards that massive hill bunker. But luckily it's over it and we're putting whoa ricky ah yeah yeah i really didn't want to do that [Music] one over that was a silly mistake i was a good tee shot as well uh [Music] where's that vanish too we're putting it's all the mars i feel like it's really just hit me that i lost my lunch two holes ago anyway birdie pork oh rick where's my speed control gun it's a path to rumble i just really really want to go back to level park [Music] oh that's a really annoying bogey oh no okay. So i'm just waiting for the 14th green to clear here this part five i've hit a decent drive i was a bit annoyed i've just missed fairway left. And i know if you hang it on the fairway bounds down i probably got another 50 yards out of it from here though it's not too horrendous i'm 209 yards to the front it's very getable to get onto the green i feel like i just need to make one more birdie the next.
Couple of holes because very much we've got 16 17 18 all very very challenging difficult holes maybe like 18 so the heart might start pounding again it's just a wonderful experience like to be out here and play this golf course is awesome we found the bunker ideally i wanted to place around the gulf. And not find a single bunker but if you come to st andrews and play the old course you kind of got to experience it all right little pop bunker here fingers crossed i should just throw this all the way there [Music] that's pretty crap [Music] i'm going oh [Music] [Music]. So here we go 17th hole look at this the road hole or you've literally got to hit it where it says old course hotel you've got to get the ball landing on that line she got to carry that shed and obviously got the infamous 18th hole i'm too over to break 75 i've got to go par par and i've got this tea shop to face and the back and the pin is back left as well behind the road hole bunker oh oh it's a bit left brick you might there be. So far left over the bunker well you you can go maybe almost left of the road hole bunker to almost get it on the back of the 18 to come the other way in listen steve you think i'm some sort of novice round there actually i've been plotting my way strategically oh i like this i like it i pulled it left into the roof it was the safe miss now it's made this hole tremendously long because i'm hitting back into wind i've got to carry on this line i've got to carry the road hoe bunker. And uh that's pretty much it would go against me i'm like 185 yards left into the flag and in fact i've not even brought enough club with me i have to go and get a five iron carry carry [Music] oh that's awesome like it looks like it's tapping it might not be but it looks outrageously close best job ever in my life that's probably the the best second shot i've seen in there probably ever i played it in big high draw landed like a butterfly with sore feet and just roll past the flag little birdie opportunity on 17. i didn't think i'd have a birdie opportunity on this hole. But we we've got a look at it right come on rick come on not a religious man but i uh i pray for this to go in nice low [Music] oh yeah yeah yeah pathetic oh i shouldn't complain about a par on that hole. But i must admit i feel like i'm gonna lose a bit of sleep over that putt tonight either way two over and this last hole to go see this is now downwind rick. So i reckon you can get this very close it's quite soft that's the only negative. But you i just don't know how close i want to get oh i need to get i need to get closer than close for putting or i need to lay it way back you should be doing your jack nicholas moment here taking your sweater off and pumping it up and then.
Pumping it on the green 18th hole one of the most famous holes in golf what a finish homework yes that's got a chance now you can't come to sent andrew's old course without sitting on the swilken bridge. And getting a banger instagram [Music] as we mosey on down the 18th hole it's been an awesome experience it really has playing with steve with all of his knowledge and experience around here has definitely helped me as well today.
Because just having those trust on certain lines etc it's been an emotional like walking down here this is the home of golf like this is where it started. And to be able to put a cool video together that hopefully you guys enjoy and to be putting a nice round together is also really important i need to make par on the last to shoot 74 which i'll be over the moon with right i'm at the front of the green almost drove it i must admit if it's a bit dry would it go on i'm gonna go with putter i am just because we've got a good score going there's no point embarrassing myself right now let's give it a smack up the hill get it on the green [Music] [Music] thanks val that was wicked wow awesome yes.
