[music] episode number 11 break 75 here the royal bertdale golf club look at this this place is incredible hosted many open championships two ryder cups walk up curtis cup lady oh ladies opens on this hallowed turf often ranked comfortably in the top five of best golf courses here in the uk it's stunning last time the open was here was 2017 where famously jordan spieth won on this very green one thing i'm not too excited about is this stuff look at this rough this is long deep. So this is going to be a proper test. And look at that iconic clubhouse right last few rounds kings barnes said andrew gold course which hopefully you enjoyed i've done pretty well i've broke 75. But i must admit looking out here today.
With that roof in these conditions today's gonna be a real battle now i'm also playing today.
With guy from the podcast because this is one of his bucket list golf courses. So he wants to try and beat me to see what happens as well come on rorbertdale one of my favorite golf courses anywhere in the world let's go and see if we should break 75. these are the teas that set out the white tees it's 6 000 just over 6800 yards. And it's past 72. when the open is here they actually play some of the path fives as par fours. And actually turns into a past 70. already i can tell by the condition this place is just something else i mean it's just gorgeous looks. So manicured i mean lynx is still. So it's got it's natural it's not overly polished it's absolute stunner okay blind second shot six iron into this green oh be nice be nice [Music] if that's the number we should be putting. For birdie if it's not the number then.
We're not putting for birdie how's your time been in the rough guy i've never broke my wrist and for two minutes then.
I was quitting golf forever i'm all right now though that rough is brutal i was made up to find my golf ball nearly brought my wrist on the first shot went to rough again chipped out in the rough chipping out basically you've got no shot other than just get back onto the fairway. And take your medicine [Music] let's go bernie in the first fun fact i've played this hole three times i've birded it three times this is my hole i like this one maybe later on [Music] [Applause] i'll be honest with you i didn't think i'd hit it that far offline off the tee i'm not that far off the fairway. And just have a quick look at this i mean that is a nasty snaggy juicy lie on the roof jump the bunker please jump the bunker left. Or right of it and it would have been rolling on the green there but no right in it tasty ah take it [Music] oh wow get down get down get down get down. But you're hitting it as soon as it starts going towards the thick rough you're thinking it might as well just be out of bounds it's that [Music] bad a bit skinny what it'll do [Applause] that looks really good oh my goodness [Applause] yes lovely saved it shape's just a little bit hurting you know too much that's perfect [Music] i don't see how it misses let's go okay well done thank you okay this is the perils of rorbertdale fairway's here granted i've not had the best tee shot i've pulled it a little bit offline i've avoided this bunker. And i thought i was kind of in this region i'm not that's my golf ball just down there if you can see it lucky to find it. And it's it's look if you pan to the right that's how far off the fairway we are par five second shot i'm gonna hit a lob wedge. And hope for the best to get it back out i mean this is absolutely brutal let's not walk too far away i'll end up losing it it's how thick that is there i kind of feel like that's my best route. But don't go in that bunker so i've actually i've actually avoided the bunker i thought i'd hit it in there i'd have been really annoyed with that but for now my third shot interest very easy par five if i'm honest i'm 220 yards away ah never mind reset [Music] should be like on the green on the side yeah not bad that rough is ridiculously hard i mean it is you saw it i mean i had hardly any option actually almost come out backwards [Music] lovely lovely oh beautiful [Music] silly bogey [Music]. And i have it left give it a really good chance to be fair i was a bit sure what would chance [Music] ouch [Music] oh yes big portland [Music]. And your 52 little grip down slightly three-quarter swing i'm really happy with that i'm not i'm really happy with that i know some players would get it closer but i'm pleased with that [Music] it pushed my eyes in [Music] um nine holes i am level par three bogeys three birdies happy with that a couple of times where i've had to negotiate my way around but taking that all right guys started not the best but you've studied the i'm five over which isn't great but i started off double double so i've had seven hills at one over so i'm quite happy with actually fair you've just gotta be in play right bat nine starts now sorry just a quick one i've actually made two birdies and two bulges but still i'm level par [Music] oh oh draw back in should be okay right please click right kick right into the bunker down [Music] oh no [Music] better [Music] it was like in this bit somewhere it's. So thick though my uh my professional which is now my actual ball is smart bang in the middle of the fairway. So my next.
Shot will be my fourth. So i've just hit the best shot of my life three quarter eight iron chased it out it's run out so what looks like a foot away and the cameraman wasn't even filming thanks mate double bogey annoying one there bad start to the bat nine yeah i think it's half a club short [Music] okay 13th hole now if you remember the 2017 open this particular t-shirt went down in history because this is where on sunday in the middle of july jordan spieth hit one miles right onto the driving range right over there you see the guys playing gotta take it off from here aren't we really nearly 500 yards par four let's see if i can sit straighter than jordan well not much better take it back it's not as easy as it looks i went aggressive. And it didn't work oh yeah yeah i didn't want to go [Music]. So that was a five [Music] lovely couldn't done better than that [Music] just ouch never up never in oh. So frustrating right 15th hole par five got four holes to go this is a par five seventeen is the par five eighties the par five the way we played it. So basically i've gotta make two birdies coming in let's start by making one here first oh provisional ball that's the one i wanted that's the one i wanted so we can find my first [Music] nice very nice guy well done pal luckily eagle eye cameraman found it not an easy shot here just over that mounds a bunker i've got to be very confident. And almost fly it all the way there oh it's gone left on me simmer gotta get a good up and down here to save power [Music] oh what a horrendous hole if it's got lucky it's got the wow pin high right i honestly didn't think i'd get there when i hit it i'm gonna go three under from here to shoot under 75.. So this absolutely has to drop give it a chance at least rick come on disappointed oh rick lost it that's good [Music] wow got shot happy with that [Music] i need to albatross the last last hole 18th here at robert dell and uh it's been one hell of an experience testing somewhat rewarding and uh the score at the moment to update you i basically need to make a two on this par five to shoot 74. there's still a chance but it's slim i'd like to finish with birdie or obviously eagle um i feel like the bat nine is just i let my foot off the accelerator about nine i was cruising through the front nine a couple of mistakes couple of birdies about nine went nah rick bang have that. So let's try and finish strong um this is the second to last break 75 episodes where we said we're doing 12 it's number 11. we might have a few little sneaky ones later on. But let's see if we can finish with an albatross carry it carry it miss it do something [Music] that's oh ball look at this the iconic clubhouse in the background. And honestly my driver shot came in here and it went you know what should we go lucky and roll into the fairway and have a short approaching or suck it up into there and that's exactly what it did i have to hold this shot to break 75. breaking wasn't to be today.
